Nursery News

Charity Work

Here at the Jubilee Nursery we enjoy working with our local community. We have recently completed a food bank collection our parents and staff did a great job and gathered lots of food for our local food bank.

Millie's Mark

The Jubilee Nursery is excited to announce that we have achieved the Millie's Mark Award, becoming the first setting in the borough of Lewisham to have received the highest recognition in first aid.

Awarded by the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) in association with the Department for Education and Millie’s Trust, this is a national award given to settings for going above and beyond in meeting requirements in paediatric first aid.

To celebrate the award we hosted a celebratory tea party, which was attended by Councillor Chris Barnham, Cabinet Member for School Performance and Children’s Services, staff from the Lewisham Early Years Team and current parents and children. Our team provided practical advise and guidance to our parents.

Alison Pendergast said: ‘We place a high emphasis on going above and beyond for all the children at the Jubilee Nursery to ensure that every single one of them is safe and that their well being is of a high standard. Achieving Millie’s Mark has provided us with a nationally recognised endorsement on our practice.’

Purnima Tanuku, Chief Executive of National Day Nurseries Association, said: ‘Achieving Millie’s Mark is a great achievement for the nursery; it shows that all staff are fully trained in paediatric first aid and that they have reflected on their current practice to improve competence and confidence. Becoming a Millie’s Mark nursery is a clear indicator for parents that this nursery has met the highest standards and gives them the reassurance that their children are safe.’

Alison added ‘We strongly recommend other settings send their staff on training to refresh their knowledge and ensure that all staff are adequately trained. It is very difficult to choose a nursery for any parent and for us we wanted to reinforce the fact that we are a safe setting and that our staff are confident and capable to handle first aid situations.’
